The Italian- American non-profit society Domus Italica, affiliated with the Harvard University and Universitá degli Studi di Macerata in Italy, has the pleasure to announce its summer program titled Giacomo Leopardi: l’infinito al di lá del pessimismo.
The Honorable Nobel Laureate Sir Derek Walcott will offer a series of lessons in English on contemporary poetry and techniques of poetic essay.
The seminar will be composed of four lessons for a total of eight hours and will take place in Sant’Elpidio a Mare (Public Auditorium), in the Marche region (http://www.marcheworldwide.org ), from July 5th through the 12th of 2006.
The seminar will cover the following topics:
- The classic meter and the subsequent revivals
- The innovations of Dante in the metric techniques and the subsequent development leading up to the contemporary
- The actuality of the epic in contemporary poetry
The seminar will conclude with an evening dedicated to the reading of significant compositions from the poets Salvatore Quasimodo, Eugenio Montale and Derek Walcott with accompanying jazz pieces performed live by musicians from the Berklee College of Music in Massachusetts.
The price of participation in the seminar is Є 400.
The cost of lodging and transportation are the responsibility of the participants.
